Placemaking
In 2019, Gorgie Collective organised a series of sessions using the Scottish Government's Place Standard Tool to assess how Gorgie residents feel about our local area. We have published our findings in our Gorgie Placemaking Report (2019), which you can read below. We also captured some of our discussions 'live' via a colourful and informative graphic illustration by artist Mario Gonzalez, pictured right.
We believe that creative placemaking is a route to increasing wellbeing and developing connections in our community. We are committed to delivering visible improvements to our place based on the priorities of local people. We have already undertaken several actions sparked by our placemaking discussions, including campaigning to protect our local cultural heritage, supporting local residents in challenging unsuitable development proposals damaging to neighbourhood amenity and running workshops on issues of community and cultural interest.
We are an organisational member of the Gorgie-Dalry Community Forum and regularly collaborate with local partners including Big Hearts, Health All Round and SMCRC to deliver activities and projects in Gorgie.
